What happens after I order?
You'll receive a confirmation email with simple setup instructions. We transfer the number to your account at NumberBarn, a trusted phone number management service where you control your forwarding, and you're up and running by the next business day. The whole process is hands-off for you.
Do I really own it after the buyout?
Yes, completely. Once you buy out, the number is transferred to your own account. You own it the same way you own your cell phone number. No strings, no ongoing relationship required. You can keep it where it is, move it to any carrier, or do whatever you like with it.
What if I need to change my forwarding number later?
You can update your forwarding destination anytime through your NumberBarn account. Changing offices, switching to a cell, adding a VoIP line, it takes about 30 seconds to update.
What if my vanity word is longer than 7 letters?
Phone numbers are 7 digits after the area code, so only the first 7 letters of the word actually dial. A number like 708-PLUMBING works perfectly because P-L-U-M-B-I-N maps to the 7 digits and the G is ignored. Callers can dial the whole word and it still connects. The only rare issue is with very long words on certain carriers, so shorter is generally better.
What happens if I stop paying?
If you cancel, the number goes back into our available inventory. There's no penalty or fee for canceling. But keep in mind that once you let it go, someone else can claim it, and popular vanity numbers don't stay available long.
Are these numbers available from anyone else?
They are sometimes listed on other sites, but we guarantee to beat anyone else's price for these numbers. That's why we give you a discount code to save you $10 per month off BLB's regular price. Nobody else does everything for one low price. They're trying to get as much as they can for every number, not to make it up on volume like we are. We sell more numbers and pass that savings on to you!
Can I search for a specific number?
You can't search for specific local numbers because of the way local numbers are issued, in blocks of 10,000 numbers at a time in a slow trickle to phone companies spread out over 50-100 years. You can generally only get local numbers that were issued within the past 6-12 months. You can't get numbers issued decades ago or decades from now. That plus the fact that you can't tell what phone company has which numbers and you can't request whatever number you want is why you can't get numbers like this from your local phone company.
If you hadn't taken these numbers, wouldn't I have been able to get them for free?
No, they would have been given out randomly and of no use to anyone. Regular phone companies don't know their numbers spell anything. If we hadn't invested the time and effort to get this and make it available to you, they would be of no use to anyone, just like all the other numbers given out over the years.
Do you have toll-free vanity numbers too?
Yes! Our sister site
ACupofCoffeeperDay.com has thousands of toll-free vanity numbers (800, 888, 877, etc.) starting at just $3.30/day.
What is the process to purchase the number and transfer it to my own carrier?
The first step is to sign up at $79/month, because until you do, someone else can still order it. Once you sign up and the number is forwarding to you, it may take a couple of weeks to move the number over to NumberBarn. During that time, you can set up an account with NumberBarn in your name with a random $5 number. We will give you a link to pay for the remaining 47 months at $79, to make a total of 48 months. You can do this up until your 3rd month and deduct the months you've already paid from the 48-month total. As soon as you have paid for the 48 months, we release the number to your NumberBarn account. You can then transfer it to your existing phone company at any point. You own it with no strings. But you do have to keep it active somewhere — you have the right to use the number indefinitely, but do not disconnect or discontinue service without transferring the number to keep it active.
Is there anything I can't do on the monthly service that I can if I prepay and transfer it to my own phone company?
You can receive calls forwarded to your phone from the vanity number and run your business entirely on the monthly service. But because the calls are being forwarded, your outgoing caller ID still shows your regular number, not the vanity number. By prepaying and transferring the number to your own phone company, you can make outbound calls from the vanity number and send outgoing texts from it too.
Why do I have to sign up for the monthly service first if I know I want to own it?
There are multiple reasons. Signing up removes the number from availability so it's yours and nobody else can get it. Until you do that, you can't count on it, because if we emailed you about it, we probably emailed your competitors at the same time. It also feels good to hear the phone ring and know it's real before you commit much money. And it lets you pay for it when it's easier for you, rather than being pressured to come up with thousands of dollars quickly. The other reasons are more mechanical. You ultimately want to change customer names and phone companies, but we've found that changing both at the same time can be tricky because you've got two different organizations that need to work together. It's much easier to change customers within the same phone company so you only have one organization to deal with, and it's essentially instant. Once it's on your account with an independent phone company in your name, you can take your time and transfer wherever you want when you're ready. It also takes a couple of weeks to move the number over to a company that will make the transfer quick and easy, so by activating the monthly service it's essentially already yours while we get it ready to transfer.
